Protein

High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets are the hottest thing since sliced beef, and every food marketer in the known universe appears to want a piece of the protein pie. Body builders are snatching, grabbing, and gulping down protein shakes and bars. Dieters are gobbling down protein bars, cookies, candies (and shunning pasta) in hopes of quick weight loss.

It's easy to understand the excitement. Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. In fact it constitutes three-fourths of our body tissue (excluding the water). Hair and nails are mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.

Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a "macronutrient," meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it. Vitamins and minerals, which are needed in only small quantities, are called "micronutrients." But unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply.

Unfortunately, animal foods that are high in protein are usually also high in saturated fats, which increase the risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and several types of cancer. The alternative some people chose are the high protein drinks or bars. Unfortunately these bars and drinks are usually packed with artificial ingredients and loaded with natural and artifical sweeteners. Either way from animal source or from bars or shakes, your protein comes with additional unwanted items.

The American Heart Association warns that this raises cholesterol levels even more and increases cardiovascular risk. The AHA also notes that by concentrating on these protein sources you may be getting too much salt, and not enough calcium, potassium, or magnesium, which are vital to good health.

Experts recommend as part of a health diet choosing plant protein sources that are high in protein, high in fiber and low in net impact carbohydrates. MegaOmega™ Organic Sprouted Flax is high the ideal nutrition source. Not only is it high in protein, the protein is a complete protein providing all 20 amino acids. It is also low in saturated fats and sodium. Additionally MegaOmega™ Organic Sprouted Flax is high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and Omega 3 essential fatty acids.

Chose your protein wisely ..... choose MegaOmega™ Organic Sprouted Flax
